ABOUT JOYNER & FEWSON, P.C.:
Dawson L. Joyner and George V. Fewson began their practice of law in Boulder in 1978.
Prior to entering private practice, both were employed by the Denver District Office of the
Internal Revenue Service. Mr. Fewson was an attorney in the IRS Estate and Gift Tax
Division for eight years, and spent his final year as an Appeals Officer in the IRS Regional
Appeals Office. Mr. Joyner spent five years as an attorney examiner in the Estate and Gift
Tax Division. In 1978, both left the IRS and opened their law office which is currently
located in the Park Place Office Building at 3100 Arapahoe Avenue in Boulder. Mr. Joyner
is a Colorado native, born and raised in Greeley, Colorado, and is a graduate of Colorado
University and the Denver University Sturm College of Law. On May 1, 2002, Mr. Fewson retired
from active practice, however Mr. Joyner plans to continue to practice on a full time basis
for many years to come.
In keeping with our backgrounds and experience, we have chosen to limit the scope of our
practice to state and federal tax controversy matters, estate and tax planning, probate,
and small business matters. We devote a substantial portion of our
professional time to drafting wills and trusts, and developing other wealth transfer
strategies, particularly for clients who may have federal estate tax exposure. Mr. Joyner is
legal counsel to several corporate fiduciaries, advising on trust administration and tax
matters. Because of our IRS experience, we are well qualified to follow through on any
planning we do, including the preparation of estate and gift tax returns.
Apart from estate planning and taxation matters, we handle other routine legal matters,
including the formation of corporations and LLCs. We do general real estate
matters, including the preparation and review of real estate contracts. Mr. Joyner and Mr.
Fewson have written and lectured extensively in the areas of taxation and estate planning.
Both are long-time members of the Boulder County Estate Planning Counsel. Mr. Joyner is
a former business law and taxation instructor at the University of Colorado College of
Business and Administration. Mr. Joyner has also served as chairman of the Boulder
County Bar Tax Section, and as Chairman of the Executive Council of the Tax Section of
the Colorado Bar Association. Mr. Joyner has for many years held highest possible
attorney peer-review rating of “AV”from Martindale-Hubbell.
The philosophy of Joyner and Fewson, P.C. is to provide highly competent, and very
personalized legal services. All work involving legal analysis and decision making will
always receive the complete and undivided attention of an attorney. In this way it is
possible to carefully control the quality of work that is produced in our office. At the same
time, by maintaining our practice on a small and manageable scale, we are able to control
overhead costs and charge at rates which compare favorably with those charged by
attorneys with comparable experience in the Denver Metro area. We will gladly provide
professional references, or answer any other questions you may have about our firm. We
appreciate your consideration of our firm for your legal needs.
